Out and about

If you enjoy exploring then there is plenty here for the adventurous either by car or on foot, with many marvellous walks available a short drive inland from the coast. Take a stroll in the beautiful botanical gardens of La Concepcion in Malaga, birthplace of Pablo Picasso. Visit the fascinating Cuevas de Nerja where Palaeolithic cave paintings have been discovered and where the acoustics are so good that concerts are regularly held here. The Moorish influence is particularly prevalent at the Alhambra Palace at Granada, or you might even be tempted to take a day trip to Morocco from Gibraltar.

Happy families

The area is particularly well suited to families. With dolphin watching cruises, aqua parks at Torremolinos and Mijas, theme parks like Tivoli World at Benalmadena, aquariums and a safari park at Estepona to name but a few, the Costa del Sol is a positive paradise for the younger members of the family. The Spanish are well known for their family orientated way of life and you will find that children are welcome and well catered for in every aspect.

Retail therapy

You can rub shoulder pads with the rich and famous in Puerto Banus, paradise for yacht-spotters, or Marbella, whilst picking up your essential Gucci and Versace accessories from one of the plethora of smart boutiques that line the streets of the old town. Ceramics, local art, leather and lace are all good value too.

Sports shorts

If something a little sportier is more your style, try pitting your wits against the surf in Tarifa or putting to your heart's content on one of the Costa's many outstanding golf courses. A huge variety of water sports is available from jet skiing to scuba diving, and good old-fashioned swimming! Spectator sports include bull fighting for those with the stomach for it.

Also night time horse racing in Mijas.

Horse Racing at the Costa del Sol Race Course Thanks to our generous climate, when other racing courses have to close down due to the winter weather, stables from all over Europe bring their best horses to gallop on our tracks. On the arrival of summer, nights at the racecourse make for an unforgettable experience.

After dark

The in crowd head for Marbella and Puerto Banus, where a huge variety of nightclubs and bars will challenge even the most indefatigable. With an overdose of 'beautiful people' here, the key is to see and be seen. Look out for rock concerts too during the summer, often held in bull rings.
